“My goal as an educator is to help young thinkers learn to see with new eyes each day and become eager sponges of knowledge.”
Colby was welcomed into the Poly Prep Lower School community in 2022 as a Classroom Assistant before becoming an Associate Teacher in 2024. She introduced the Lower School’s first-ever African, tap, and hip hop dance enrichment courses for the PolyPM program. Colby also served as a Storytelling Cultural Dance Teaching Artist for PolyCultura in 2023. Prior to Poly, she received her B.F.A. in Theatre-Acting from Adelphi University and M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University. She grew up as an actress, dancer, and singer for Broadway and Off-Broadway productions before transitioning to education. Colby has been a professional performer for places like BAM, RestorationART, Museum of Natural History, and serves as the Youth Celebrity Chair for the International Black Theatre Festival where she has mentored about 1,000 children interested in learning more about the arts since 2016. Although Colby continues her artistic career in acting and directing, she has grown a passion for teaching and educating young thinkers and creatives. She is passionate about culturally responsive pedagogy in theater and dance and loves applying that knowledge in interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum.
Outside of work, Colby enjoys traveling, nature walks, trying lots of new food, being a dog mom, and is an extreme bubble tea lover.
