Tony Gini has taught at Poly since 2000. Prior to Poly, he taught at the Dwight-Englewood School, and before that was both a lawyer and a college professor. He has taught Latin, Ancient Greek, and classics at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, the University of Rhode Island, and the Ohio State University. He has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Classics at Brooklyn College almost continually since 1993. During his tenure at Poly, Tony has been a Grade 9 Dean and Chair of the Department of Languages. He was elevated to the role of Classical and Modern Philosophy Department Chair in 2023. Tony is a past holder of the William M. Williams Faculty Chair and in 2003, delivered one of the Kastendieck Lectures. He also serves as the President of the Cum Laude Society at Poly. He earned his bachelor’s in Latin at Brooklyn College in 1982, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He holds a Ph.D. in classics from Brown University, with a dissertation on the influence of Plato’s philosophy on the poetry of Horace. He earned a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1995. He has been a part-time arbitrator in Small Claims Court in Brooklyn. While he has worked only briefly as a full-time lawyer, he is an active member of the Bar of the State of New York, as well as the Bars of the Federal Courts of the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has published several scholarly notes in Classical World.
